salt of the earth
The Davis family came to visit us at Jimmy’s home place which we call “the hill”. It’s out in the country with little to no cell reception and no internet (thus no blogging). Frogs croaking, birds chirping…
future blue birds in progress,
dandelions to blow,
Brother Jimmy honey made a new path through the woods,
walking in the creek,
playing in the yard,
watching pop pop cut down a tree,
but….. there are no toys at the house.
Sunday night Jedidiah spent his time playing with the buttons in the button jar.
Monday we gave him a salt shaker and he seasoned the back porch and everyone on it with salt..
Millie and Pepper were content to be on my happy lap.
Watching Jedidiah with the salt shaker and seeing the salt bounce around with its own texture and grittiness made me think of Jesus saying:
You are the salt of the earth.
Think about how bland your favorite food would be without salt. Eggs, french fries, pretzels, potato chips etc. would not have the same pizazz . So don’t you think Jesus was saying something similar to , “ Okay people, go out there and spice things up a bit in this big beautiful world. I just gave you all these blessings in this talk that people will be calling the Sermon on the Mount. That’s your recipe for living. Go shake up this world and make it a better place. Fill it with love and compassion and strive for peace between your brothers and sisters.” Maybe Jesus said something like that (shy, nervous giggle =D smile).
Have a salty day! deb
